Repeating Code
Last night I got my second opportunity to see Menthol perform live - and it was absolutely awesome. I even got to hang out with Colin backstage and help clean up his drum gear - and basically feel like a real live roadie. Good times :)
Colin and I talked a lot about the possibility of doing a music video, on some level, for their new EP. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out something moderately easy, but still appealing. I really wanted to show the band the Evangelion video I did to their song, "Strange Living" before I put it online, but since the chances of getting them all together for something like that is slim to nill I'm caving - it's online right now in fact:

I missed the deadline for ACen 2005 with this video, so I'll have to wait till next year to try to get it screened. *sigh*
So now it's Saturday and I really have no clue with what to do with the rest of the weekend. I have a feeling I'll be resigned to playing XBL the rest of the night...

And the peasants rejoice...
AICN is reporting on Kevin Smith's (yes, that Kevin Smith) review of Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. What did Mr. Smith think of Eps 3?
""Revenge of the Sith" is, quite simply, fucking awesome. This is the "Star Wars" prequel the haters have been bitching for since "Menace" came out, and if they don't cop to that when they finally see it, they're lying. As dark as "Empire" was, this movie goes a thousand times darker - ...." -- and then it gets into some spoilerish territory at which time I averted my eyes and yelled "66?! What?! Noos!" even though I wasn't sure what "66" meant - simply that it wasn't something I should know yet.
Anyway - here's the article, with the link to Smith's site for the full review.
Fucking awesome.
I cannot wait... I've never been this excited over a Star Wars pic :)

Backlogged
So it's been a while since I wrote, and I got some things that I missed writing about in the last couple of weeks - so here we go..
Sarah's birthday was on the 16th. Pat Other Pat and Stefin were in town for Columbia's open house, so I met up with them and Talitha after class. We hung out at my place for a while, and I did my best to amuse them with videos and random shit on my computer. Then we got bored and headed to Bennigans for dinner. It was really strange because it was almost exactly the same as last year on April 16th... except Sarah was there. Sarah would have been there again, but she was headed to the final, 'really' final, Cher concert.
Sarah came by after the concert, and after the others had left. I'm the only 21 year old amongst her friends, so it was my duty to take her out to the bars to celebrate her 21st birthday. I took her to Wabash Tap first because, for whatever reason, she really wanted to go there. Then she wanted go head to the bar at Bennigans - again, I have no reason why exactly. I wanted to take her to a dance club like Berlin or something, but whatever. Not my birthday. At Bennigans we got a ton of free drinks, which was cool - and no Sarah, it was not because I was not flirting with the bartender. We got pretty drunk there, one of us more than the other (hint: not me). The L was closed by the time we left and we ended up having to walk the blocks back to my apartment. I know I was drunk at this point because I was hoping someone would try to mug us so I could say, "Are you threatening me Master Jedi?" and fling out my mace ala Emperor Palpatine in the Episode 3 trailer. God I suck.
Some pics from the event? Well there's one here, here, and this one from Sarah's cam phone here. We look pretty smashed in that last pic, huh?
You know how in anime when they drink they turn red (or at least get those red lines under their eyes?) Well that's true of most asian people. My Japanesey blood took over and even my hands were turning red by the end of the night. Not cool. I really kind of hate that. I mean, if I have a single beer my face lights up like a christmas tree. It has nothing to do with how drunk I am, but it makes me look like a 10 year old who got into his parent's schaaps. Bad times.
The rest of the weekend was spent mostly sleeping, as I recall.. I think. We went to Clarke's the next day and met up with Talitha, Stefin, Collin and Chris. Chris is crazy. He's a burned out candy kid who constantly dances. He danced on the street. He danced in Clarkes. He danced in Gap... okay. I was extremely tired at this point though, so that may have made it more irritating than it actually was.
Anyway... this weekend I'm going to see my cousin Colin and Menthol play at the Bottom Lounge. Sarah was supposed to go with to that because I really want her to see Menthol perform, and she really wants to see them too. But she probably won't be able to make it.. so I gotta find a new date.
Random notes:
- I have resumed normal relations with Stu and Pat. I hung out with them sat and sun this weekend. That's good news because:
• Echoes is actually moving along at a normal pre-production pace. We're actually ready to shoot episode 1 (of 3)
• Kanzen Radio will be returning soon. Yay!
- Scotch is good straight up. I don't like most alcohol straight up like that. But scotch ain't bad. It's replaced brandy in my flask.
- Blackberry Sage tea from Republic of Tea is yummy.
- I got the okay from my Production 2 teacher for my next 16mm film. It'll be black and white again, but this time I'm working with negative film instead of reversal - and here's the kicker, I'm editing on Avid instead of two reels from the early 1900's. Non-Linear computer editing > Linear Editing. Fo sho.
- New Halo 2 maps mean I'm playing Halo 2 online again. Took them freaking long enough, but at least the maps are sweet. 4 down, 4 to go :)
