Not the same
So after hearing lots of praise about it, I gave the anime Elfen Lied a shot.

I hated it.

Elfen Lied is thinly veiled guro anime - I don't care what anyone says.

I can stomach a lot of stuff. I've seen a lot of really bad things on the internet, but guro and its ilk is some of the most disturbing. It's the sexualized violence and the tone it carries. And also, the idea of the mindset of the people who watch it (I'm not sure how I feel about those who produce it... but I'll just assume they're fucked up too).

Elfen Lied is just a slightly more toned down version of it. But make no mistake, it's still sexualized violence. Fuck that. I'll stick to keeping Monster and Naruto and GitS TV 2nd Gig in my playlist.

The popularity of Elfen Lied sort of confirms my suspicion that US anime fans are becoming more and more like true Japanese otaku.

Keep it intact, foo!
So in another bout with boredom I was taking the Spot the Virgin test and this image came up and I couldn't help but laugh:

Gee... we have creepy goth girl with face paint, and nerdy Asian guy at a comic book shop pointing to Yu Gi Oh cards.... Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Who could it be?

Of course, maybe I shouldn't talk. Image isn't everything.. *cough*

And as my anticipation for Revenge of the Sith continues to grow, here's a quote from Sam Jackson that makes May 19th seem even further away, "It´s very dark and Shakespearean... and adult, and more violent than a "Star Wars" movie used to be. Hopefully they´ll be satisfied with this particular episode."

Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith also officially has a PG-13 rating now.

Huh?
Did Sam's website get hacked?

If this isn't a joke, that's fucked.

But - why would you hack a realtively small, personal, website like that to spread your l33t political message?

Weird..

EDIT - well, it seems to be fixed now - that's good. This is what it looked like before though.

Forks in the roads.. why couldn't it be spoons?
I just happened upon my old blog.

Not archives of this blog, but archives of my original blog on LiveJourney (not LiveJournal - LiveJourney). It's weird reading back over how I wrote back then, and the things I wrote about. Very nostalgic.. kind of depressing (talk of Alex, the weird Marisa fling, the Banana Split crew, summer parties at Katie's house, Otaku no Radio - and other things long left in the past).

Since then things have become so fucking complicated. One of my old coworkers is already engaged, last night another one informed me that her engagment is impending. Life isn't like it was and I don't know what to think of that. It wasn't until I sat down and read what it was like back then that I really recognized how much things are different.

There's one comment from October 22nd, 2002 that I wish was still true today:
"I've basically estabished equalibrium in my life for the moment. School issues, social issues, assorted issues... it's all Good. Tada!"

I'm not sure any of those are true anymore.

School? Not terrible. Could be better.

Social? Pat's missing in action and Stu and I don't hang out as much as we'd like. While I truly love hanging out with Other Pat, Stefin, Colin, Talitha and (of course) Sarah - I really, really, hate the way Stu and Pat and I are seemingly losing touch. Well, specifically Pat because Stu and I still talk. I haven't heard anything from Pat since Spring Break. I have no idea what's going on with him.

Assorted? It's all a mess.

This entry is kind of interesting - from Nov. 14th 2002:
I saw Pat today. That was a shocker. It was totally by chance too. If I hadn't left the computer lab at that time, and took that path to Film class, I would have missed him. I had just seen someone else I hadn't spoken to for a few weeks on my way, then when I came out of the stairs I heard someone yell "Brendan?!", and when I turned around it was Pat. Despite what the rumors I heard said, Pat was neither wearing a dress nor did he have a green mohawk... Of course, I never actually believed those rumors anyway.

I haven't talked to Pat in over a year and yet we picked up where we left off without skipping a beat. He asked if I still talked to Alex... haha, more than he knows :P He wants to hang out again with us. Alex said "He's NOT coming to ACen this year." I said.. "Oh... uh.. okay." --- then he said, "Well, if he's 'Old Pat' he can come. But if he's 'New Pat' he can't!" Pat was a good friend who kinda lost touch with us when he switched high schools. Alex was always hard on him, and I'm not totally sure why. I always liked Pat... the 3 of us had some good times together during school. We were the original Triad... Brendan - Alex - Pat. Then Pat moved off and Mike kinda-sorta took his place. Thought I suppose Finiak was always the unofficial replacement ^_^;;

Weird to go back in time and read something like that...

Okay. Starting today - new rules for social life. Talk to people again. Don't lose touch. If there's no bad blood, there's no reason to.

It seems everyon's using MySpace now. I signed up for it a few months ago and then promptly forgot about it. Then I discovered that Pat and Stu are both on there so I went back and actually filled in the profile.

Add me as a friend. Because I'm cool. I'm easy going, quiet, house-trained and take up little space.

I love online petitions. They're so... urgent. The people who start them seem to actually believe they're accomplishing something. The only time I've ever witnessed an online petition do any good was the Princess Mononoke DVD. Nausicaa.net worked closely with Disney/Buena-Vista in forumulating a petition to see how many people really wanted the DVD to have the original Japanese language track and an English sub track on the DVD. This wasn't so much a petition as much as a sample of the market for those features. When Disney saw the outcome, they happily put the work into adding it to the DVD because they knew it'd equal profit.

THIS however - is useless.

Trying to get rid of Paris Hilton.

What exactly does that mean anyway?

I love the logic behind some of these comments:

I hate Paris Hilton and you know what I don't get? Her fans are always saying that we only hate her bc we're jealous and that's not true! I hate Osama Bin Laden, am I jealous of him?

Wow... way to go kiddo. That makes perfect sense.

Or this brilliant observation:

Hollywood is run by that scumbag hugh Hefner so of course the kiss your ass there, but the rest of us Hate you!

I had no idea Hugh Hefner ran Hollywood! Damn, I guess I need to change my tactics to make it into the film biz!
