Choked
Music: AFI - Bleed Black
Mood: Pleasant
Sorry I never finished my story last night. I just kinda passed out while watching Futurama last night and I couldn't convince myself to get up to post my story. Meh. Not that anyone.. you know.. cares :P

Those pics were taken on Sunday as I road with Stefin, Talitha and Sarah on the L. Our destination - Loyola University. Why? Well.. there was going to be a very special guest speaker that night.
That's right.
None other than...

KYAN DOUGLAS!!!
OMFG! Ahhhhhhhh!!! I love you Kyan!!! AHHHHHH!!!!! OMG! OMG! OMG!!!
Er. *ahem*
It was funny, in the morning when I was alone with Sarah we talked about how we really didn't feel like getting up and leaving the apartment and taking the looong L ride. But after seeing Kyan we decided it was more than worth the energy. Kyan was just such a great, fun, easy-going, down to earth - and above all humble guy. I mean - Kyan was just a REALLY great guy. I was very impressed. He seems like the best kind of celebrity. His talk was very candid and friendly (he admitted he had hired someone to write one for him - and that while it was good, he didn't feel right using it, so he opted for a more conversational approach) as he talked about growing up, his family, how he got on the show, and the most poignant part - how his family reacted when he 'came out'. He gave a really inspirational talk. I wasn't expecting to get teary eyed at this kind of thing, but there were a few moments when he was discussing his family's reaction that I.. um.. got something in my eye. ;)
After his talk he began the Q & A. There were some very touching comments made from parents of gay children about how great role models the Queer Eye guys are and how they're building bridges, and an especially interesting praise levied by a gay Bishop in attendance. It was a nice cross section of fans offering their priase and asking questions about the show, the guys and Kyan himself.

They were selling copies of the Queer Eye book in the lobby. It was funny because I'd seen the book a few months back, thumbed through it and thought "The only way I'd really buy this would be to get it autographed..." -- sure enough :P So I picked it up after the ladies behind the booth promised he'd be signing stuff after his talk.
So after the Q&A, Kyan was shuttled off to the next room to begin signing. We got a pretty good spot in line and managed to make it up to Kyan after only 20mins or so. I hadn't been nervous about talking to him, as I usually am when I meet "famous" people (like Shoji Kawamori.. and even Fred Gallagher). But then I got up to him with my book and kind of.. choked... and in the process, I think, kind of weirded him out :(
So I get up to him and hand him my book, and the conversation went something like this:
Me: Hi! For "Brendan". "B-R-E-N-D-A-N".
Kyan: Okay.
Me (voice starts to wobble): I'm really glad you're such a nice guy.. I thought maybe you might not be...
Kyan: Why would you think that?
Me: No no no.. I mean.. you know. Sometimes celebrities can be... um.. bad? I just mean.. thanks for being such a good guy.
Kyan (smiles): Oh.. thanks.
-we smile for a picture together-
Kyan: It was nice to meet you.
-we shake hands-
Me: Nice to meet you too!
What I wanted to say.. what I meant to say.. was how much I enjoyed his talk, that he was very inspirational, and to thank him for being so down to earth and being as good a guy in real life as he is on TV.
Instead I think I inadvertantly offended him by insinuating that I expected him to be an asshole - which I didn't even mean to say. -_-;;;
My only solice after that ordeal was that he probably has no recollection of any of that happening, and my stupid nervous comments were quickly replaced by someone elses' stupid nervous comments...
At least, I hope... Oh well. At least my book now says "For Brendan -heart- Kyan"

Sarah also choked but at least she got out something more flattering for him with a kind, "I'm so happy I'm here!" which was met by a "I'm glad too! There you go sweetie!" from Kyan. Or Talitha asking him to sign the nose-trimmer page of the book and saying "Forever I'll associate you with nose trimmers!"
But no one else alluded to expecting him to be a jerk.
God I'm a putz :(
I hope that some day soon all 5 of them are together for a book signing, and I can show Kyan he already signed mine when he was at Loyola and I was "the guy who got nervous and said "thanks for being such a great guy!"... *sigh*
I wanted to have the pic I took with him up, but unfortunately my digital camera flipped our right before I got up there and I had to have Stefin take the pic with his disposable camera. So I'm waiting for that pic to be developed...
At any rate, I still had a good time and was very glad I got to meet Kyan. It was a lot of fun. Thanks to Talitha for getting us the tickets! You r0x0rz

I'll have a more substantial post recapping my weekend later tonight. It was a pretty fantabulous weekend (and I met someone famous), so stay tuned :P
