(N) A vague feeling of unrest or unease.
This title has nothing to do with anything, except Malaise. Well, it seems Malaise has been put on indefinite delay. Pat insists that we shoot it next year, but who knows what things will be like at that point? What will have changed by then? Pehaps I'll shop the script around... or not. In retrospect, it was too ambitious for us to do "alone". I mean that in so much as it was too ambitious for us to do, the way we wanted, with the resources we had. And by resources I mean actors.
James had disappeared. James was playing the role of Kevin.
Kevin was important to the story, though he was more of a cypher than a character. Still, writing him out - like I initially proposed to Pat - just would not work. And re-shooting 1/5 of the film right now is out of the question.
However - this is far from the end of Kanzen films. Far from it. In a strange way, moving away from Malaise (or at least putting it on hold) is opening us up for a lot more experimentation. Rather than put months and months time and shoots into a single feature, we're focusing on shorts for the time being. Eventually, I'd like to produce a 13 episode web series. Each episode would be between 5-15mins in length and be posted each month for a year and a month.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
The first short, slated for February - is EMULSION.
And unlike Malaise, EMULSION will be finished in weeks, rather than a year.
We hope you like.
