Flying under
So, if anyone reading this ever listened to Kanzen Radio, you know that Stu, pat and myself haven't exactly been keeping up with it.

We sat down one night with the intention to do a show, and discovered something - we didn't want to. We were bored with the whole deal. Not with doing a radio show, but rather doing that show. That format. That offspring of Otaku no Radio with no real focus, or point. So we started thinking. How could we reconcile Kanzen Radio, with something to spark more of our imagination and more of our interest. And that's what No Radar is aiming to be.

Our listener drop off from OnR to SR/KR will be nothing compared to the drop in the switch to No Radar. It's radically different from anything we've done before, and because of that it's definitely not going to be very popular. However, it is more in line with the other things we've done with the Kanzen name stamped on it. It'll be harder work than any other radio program, but hopefully that will make it that much more appreciated.

moblog mo problems
I finally got one. A camera phone. Samsung something or other. 12-second videos, and stores 50 pics, I think, at highest res. I'm digging it. And of course, I had to make a Flickr account to pile my camera phone pics. Now, I too have a moblog.

I started watching Nip/Tuck. Pretty cool show.

The kindest cut

So, I finally decided to get a haircut. My hair's been a medium long for a while now. Sorta Ashton Kutcher-esque (when he had longer hair). Now it's sorta back to being Ewan McGregory (prior to his Star Wars hair). Got the faux-hawk thang back. Or bed-head. Or whatever.

MySpace is cool. I don't care if it's uber trendy. It's good times. I even found out that someone from TheForum is in Chicago and we'll probably meet up for a drink soon. Good times.

So, the semester is officially over for me today. I handed in my final two films, possibly my final two *films* ever, or ever at Columbia. Seeing my 16mm *color* film sort of made me reasses my feelings about digital video versus film. Then I think about how much work and hassle it was, and I'm not sure if the look of the film is worth it. Especially since there are filters to emulate that look. Not to mention the prices of motion picture film and cameras.

To that end, I'll have two films online very soon (within the next 7 days).

1.) Touch - a quick, 2min 30sec short I did with Pat and Stu. 16mm b&w negative film. Unfortunately, the Bolex I had had a light leak and there's an annoying white strip running along the right of frame the entire time. My cut I handed in to my teacher will probably be different than the version I put online, since I'm thinking of trying something to get rid of that... Anyway, this film wasn't entirely successful. Mostly because the idea was just a bit too complex for us to do with the resources we had. If I had someone good with sfx around, it would have been a lot cooler. As it is now... well.. you'll see.

This one's a little Emulsiony..

2.) The Stain of the Smell of Another Woman - I really liked how this turned out. The 16mm color film, deliberately ovexposed about 1 stop, looks a lot like the stock used in The Brown Bunny. The end of this short got a lot more abstract that the original script had it. This mostly came about during editing. One of the good things about film vs video that I will admit, is that film often has a lot of cool 'artifacts' as the film roll ends and light floods the gate, and I decided to use those artifacts in this film, instead of disregarding them. I'd put this up right away since I'm kind of excited about it. However, I'm going to re-record the dialogue since the original recording is a little too low on volume, and difficult to hear.

The only complaint I have about this film is that it was once again shot inside my apartment. I am very aware that all my films are starting to look alike. The reason I shoot so often in my apartment is because I like being able to control every aspect of a shoot, and if I'm shooting in a place I own (or at least pay the rent), then I know I can have as many hours that I need to shoot and get sound and whatnot. No rushing to make sure the owner doesn't get irritated with a film shooting in their home.

The drawback is that.. it gets really old, really fast.

If Pat, Stu and I are able to get Echoes off the ground this summer like we fully intend to, then things will be better. There are many different locations for that.

I am soooo tired now.

Confliction
Confused and tired. My joints hurt. I don't know what I'm doing. Like I've forgotten how to ride a bike.

No radar.

To reach at last our own extended view.
David graduated from high school today. In an odd way, I found it kind of saddening. David's, without a doubt, my closest friend here in Chicago. That someone I met on the internet, and through Otaku no Radio at that, could become that good of a friend is kind of surprising. But here we are. Known eachother personally, as in routinely hanging out, for about 2 years. It doesn't feel like it's been that long at all.

The thing of it is that David's a lot younger than me. Well, not *a lot* younger than me. But still... 4 years is kind of significant. I'm glad to know him. Hell, he's sleeping on my couch right now.

Anyway - what I'm getting at is that I knew him when he was a sophomore in high school and sort of 'watched' him grow up over the last couple of years. I'm probably overstepping my bounds by saying this, but in a way I think of him as a little brother. So, when your 'little brother' graduates it's a bittersweet moment. I wish I had some extra cash lying around so I could get him a specific gift for graduation. As it stands though, it'll have to be a belated gift.

And the same goes for Finiak.

It's about 9am now and in a couple hours I'll be on my way to Geneva to go to Finiak's college graduation party. I, meanwhile, am not graduating. Through both fault of my own, and circumstance (I got screwed over transferring from one college to another - and the pre-reqs situation pretty much ensured this situation would come up). Anyway, that's two 'graduations'. I can't believe it's all over for Finiak. He's done with school. Probably forever. It scares me, because (hopefully?) in a year I'll be in those shoes. Real world. Shit.

So, Finiak's education is over and David's [real] education is about to begin. Crazy.

I think I'm most scared because I could theoretically be at the end of my own college career, and not have achieved a tenth of what I hoped to. This extra year is a blessing, I believe. I will make the absolute most of it that I can.

Digital Flickr
This is a really cool service that I stumbled upon. Perfect for you photobloggers and would-be photographers to get all your stuff together without knowing MoveableType or complicated website coding or flash skills. It's called FLICKR. And it's coooool.

Got mine up and running. I think I'm going to do two of these. A personal one for pics of me and my friends, stupid pics and candid pics and whatnot. And then one to throw my sparse photography portfolio onto.

Anyway - my Flickr slideshow is RIGHT HERE. Like I said, it's mostly candid shots.

If anyone reading this (assuming, you know, anyone reads this) and go ahead and set one of these up yourself - please leave a comment with the address in it. I'd love to see them.
